Fidelius
String Quartet
The Fidelius String
Quartet, was founded in 1991 by Nicholas and Giselle Crosa. The first
group consisted of Nicholas and Giselle Crosa in violins, Romila Tandingan
in viola and Laura Orr in cello (1991-1992). In May 1993 the Fidelius
Quartet, with Nicholas and Giselle Crosa, violins, Romila Tandingan, viola
and Zach Hyder, cello, was a finalist in the 1993 Fischoff National Chamber
Music Competition in South Bend, Indiana and had the honor to perform
for the legendary violinist Joseph Gingold, in Bloomington, Indiana. In
the fall of 1993 the college-bound Romila Tandingan was replaced by Giselle
Crosa in viola while Lamont Tang joined as second violin. After the departure
of Giselle Crosa to college, it took almost two years for the ensemble
to be reunited. The next group consisted of original members Nicholas
Crosa, violin and Zachary Hyder, cello and new members violinist Emily
Norton and violist Ira Hsu. The last recital given by the Fidelius Quartet
was in June 2000, with Nicholas Crosa and Emily Norton on violins, Mac
Kim on viola and Isaiah Hsu on cello. In 1996 The Fidelius piano Trio
with pianist Andrew Brownell, violinist Nicholas Crosa and Cellist Zachary
Hyder was a prizewinner at the 1996 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
In 1998, their performances at that contest were featured on the Fischoff
organization’s 25th anniversary CD.
